What are high-protein meals?

High-protein meals are meals designed to help you hit your daily protein target, typically 30g or more per serving.

At My Muscle Chef, our high-protein meals are chef-made, dietitian-designed and delivered fresh to your door, ready to heat and eat in just two minutes. Every meal contains at least 30g of protein, with some meals delivering up to 71g per serve.

Whether your goal is building muscle, losing weight, recovering after training or simply eating better during a busy week, high-protein ready meals make it easier to stay consistent.

How much protein do you actually need?

Most active Australians probably aren’t eating as much protein as they think, especially if they exercise regularly.

The research is consistent: if you're exercising regularly, the recommended daily intake of 0.8g per kilogram of bodyweight isn't enough to support recovery and lean muscle retention, let alone growth.

As a guide:

The evidence-based targets, depending on your goal:

  • Muscle gain: 1.6–2.2g per kilogram of bodyweight per day. For a 75kg person, that's 120–165g daily.

  • Fat loss while preserving muscle: 1.2–1.6g per kilogram. Higher protein reduces muscle loss during a calorie deficit and keeps hunger in check.

  • Athletic performance: 1.4–2.0g per kilogram, depending on training volume and intensity.

  • Active maintenance: 1.0–1.2g per kilogram — more than the standard recommendation, less than a bulking phase.

That’s where ready-made high-protein meals can help. Two or three My Muscle Chef meals a day can take the stress out of trying to hit your numbers through cooking alone.

Why protein matters and why most people don't eat enough

Protein does more than help build muscle. It plays a major role in recovery, satiety and maintaining lean muscle while losing weight. Compared with carbohydrates and fats, protein also requires more energy for your body to digest, which is one reason high-protein diets are often associated with better long-term weight management.

It's the primary macronutrient for muscle protein synthesis - the process by which your body repairs and builds muscle tissue after training. And it's the most satiating macronutrient, which is why high-protein diets consistently outperform low-fat and low-carb diets for long-term adherence in weight loss research.

Despite this, most people don’t eat enough protein. It’s not because they’re unaware of its importance, but because it’s easy to underestimate intake and harder to build consistently into everyday meals. Many common breakfast and snack foods are low in protein, and even balanced meals often fall short of optimal targets.

The challenge is that eating enough protein consistently takes effort. Cooking lean meats every day, prepping meals ahead of time or relying on protein shakes can become repetitive quickly.

Ready-made high-protein meals solve this directly. The protein is already cooked, the macros are already calculated.

High Protein for Every Goal

High protein meals for weight loss

High protein and calorie control aren't mutually exclusive; they work together for weight loss. Eating more protein during a calorie deficit preserves lean muscle mass, which keeps your metabolism higher and produces a better body composition outcome than cutting calories on a lower-protein diet.

Our Lo-Cal range sits below 400 calories per serve while maintaining meaningful protein content. It's the right starting point if fat loss is the primary goal. Pair it with our standard high protein range for higher-volume days or post-training meals when your body needs more fuel.

High protein meals for muscle gain

Building muscle requires two things: sufficient training stimulus and sufficient protein intake. The training is on you. The protein is on us.
