ANGE'S JOURNEY: STOP COMPARING!
F45 Warrragul’s Ange Stonehouse discusses her transformation journey and how hard work, discipline, good company and quality nutrition helped her set and achieve her fitness goals.
Q. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO EMBARK ON THIS FITNESS TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY? HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO ACHIEVE YOUR CURRENT FITNESS STATE?
I was not happy with my health at the time or the girl in the mirror. I had been going to the gym moderately for a while but wasn’t getting the weight loss or fitness results I wanted.
I had the determination in me, but I just hadn’t found something that I felt comfortable in yet, and I needed the push to drive my motivation.
Q. WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU WISH YOU KNEW WHEN YOU STARTED - WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
I wish I knew that I could achieve anything I put my mind to. I used to spend a lot of time comparing myself to “fitter” looking people, thinking that I could never do what they did, or look a certain way - which in my mind I only knew as “ the perfect body”. I would tell my younger self to stop comparing myself to other women in the gyms or on social media, no body, person or journey is the same and so the best mindset to have is to set your own goals, think about what you want personally, and aim for that. Comparison is a huge set back if we don’t move past it.

Q. DO YOU EVER FIND EATING HEALTHY A CHORE? IS TASTE IMPORTANT?
Absolutely not! It's all about knowledge, wanting to learn which foods fuel your body or match the goals you have! My Muscle Chef has been a huge success for me, all the macros are clearly set out for each meal, which has always given me the guide to eat according to my current goals.
Q. HOW MANY MEALS A DAY DO YOU EAT TO STAY IN SHAPE AND FOR ENERGY?
I eat 5 meals per day (breakfast, a snack, lunch, another snack, and dinner) to keep my metabolism moving and fuel myself for workouts. If I don’t get my nutrition in, my energy is too low and I can’t train!
Taste is so Important! It makes eating exciting and keeps you from falling back into old habits.
Q. DID YOU AIM AT COUNTING CALORIES, OR WERE YOU MORE FOCUSED ON ENERGY AND GAINING MUSCLE?
I don’t count calories religiously throughout the day, but I have an idea of what my body needs and I use it as a base to plan out my food for the week. I am focused on both energy and muscle when I plan my food. If I am looking to drop body fat I will eat in a calorie deficit.
Q. WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WORKOUT DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU? CAN YOU BREAK IT DOWN FOR ME INTO STEPS?
- F45 class 5-6 days a week, either early or mid-morning, depending on work (which is at F45)
- I lift weights in the afternoon 2-3 times a week
- Short walks for active recovery either after weights or after dinner

Q. WHAT KEPT YOU MOTIVATED THROUGHOUT YOUR JOURNEY? HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO JUST QUIT?
The people around me kept me going and stay motivated. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support and Inspiration from the amazing network of my F45 Studio. I have made friends throughout my journey, and it has made the tough times easier with people knowing what you go through and the bumps along the way.
Yes 100% I had times where I wanted to quit, mainly stemming back to when I compared myself to other people’s results, or how they looked compared to me. But with the best support that I had I could see past it and I’m proud of my journey.
Q. WHERE TO NEXT? WHAT ARE SOME GOALS YOU ARE WORKING TOWARDS NOW?
I am always working on being the best I can be for myself. I am currently completing the F45 challenge in which my goal is to drop 5% body fat through F45 classes and My Muscle Chef Meals!
