Easter is just around the corner, and we all know how those delicious chocolates can get the better of our sweet tooth. For some, it’s a time when the temptations of chocolate, freshly baked hot cross buns and feasting can get the better of us and the annual chocolate guilt begins to surface.
However, what if we told you that you can still have your chocolate and stay on track with your health this Easter? This year, My Muscle Chef dietitian, Ria Komninos shares her tips and tricks for a more balanced Easter.
Trying to have a healthier Easter doesn’t mean you have to miss out on indulging on some delicious chocolate. Enjoying chocolate in moderation is key and some simple swaps can make all the difference in allowing you to enjoy a sweet treat and not feel so guilty afterwards. Check out some simple sweet swaps below!
Swap out the milk chocolate eggs for dark chocolate for lower sugar, lower calories and a boost of antioxidants!
Chocolate coated fruit and nuts are a great way to sneak in some extra fibre and protein compared to plain chocolate. Fibre helps keep you fuller for longer and protein found in nuts such as almonds, helps curb cravings and helps with satiety. When choosing, opting for dark chocolate also reduces sugar compared to milk chocolate.
Craving that sweet chocolate flavour? Trying to resist those chocolate eggs staring at you from the kid's Easter baskets? Try an indulgent My Muscle Chef chocolate flavoured snacks, packed full of protein and zero guilt - the perfect way to satisfy that lingering craving, guilt-free.
Planning your meals ahead of the Easter break coming up that are healthy and nourishing is key. Look to include fresh salads, lean cuts of meat like chicken and steak and opt for whole-grain carbohydrate sides like brown rice and multi-grain bread.
Don’t have time to prepare this Easter and need some meal inspiration? Why not try our new Salad range to share around the table this Easter!
Start your day with an outdoor activity with your family or a long walk to get your body moving and burning calories before the feasting begins! You can even make an Easter egg hunt for the kids to start your day outdoors.
Getting out and about this Easter? Whether you’re heading out for a picnic or outdoor adventure, leave the leftover easter eggs at home and try one of our delicious protein shakes or plant-based smoothies instead.
There’s no denying Easter leftovers have the tendency to last a few days…To help keep you on track over the Easter break, try to limit Easter to one day and make the most of enjoying it with family and friends and of course, enjoying an Easter treat or two.
Remember, you can still enjoy Easter without the chocolate and sugar overload - happy holidays MYMC Squad!
